The Magic in the Subway

I am sitting in an airport cafe, in Denmark, counting down the remaining hours until our domestic flight takes off. The total: 3 hours. This place is filled with people, putting in time. The poor lighting demands a dream-like ambience, leaving me unsure as to what time it is or where I am or if I am awake. It has been a busy couple of days, and we are not done yet. It started in Athens, a ferry ride from Paros. From there we spent a few days, perusing the markets and doing the unlikely: buying tickets to a MAGIC SHOW! The Las Vegas Magic Show toured into Athens, and by golly, we were there with bells on! The ironic thing was that we probably understood the show better than most of the attendees - considering it was performed solely in English. Though to be fair Magic transcends all nationalities, so I am sure everyone had a good time. Athens showed us magic not only in its theater, but also with an unfortunate slight-of-hand in the streets: Nick was pick-pocketed and it was very unfair. The crime took place on the subway, where Nick & I were smashed up against one another, locked in the middle of a circle of nasty Greek men. Unable to move (no one budged an inch as we tried to move past), we were helpless. Within a few moments, Nick wallets hangs down in front of him, open, and a little more poor. The thief was behind us, and it couldn't have been more obvious. It was a trap! Nick confronted the man, but of course he denied taking anything. Angry and feeling abused we exited the subway at the next stop.

On a completely separate note: we were in Italy last night. We ate delicious Italian pizza and drank some tasty Pinot, but of course our plan didn't go exactly as we had expected. But that's the life of a traveller. Sometimes your flight gets delayed and you get lost in the dark in a strange city and you are hungry and tired and the subway stops running in an hour... and that was Milan. We survived though, and today we flew over the most breathtaking scenery: the Alps. As we glided above the snow-capped mountains basking in the suns glorious rays, I was lost to the beauty of it. One tends to forget the mishaps of previous days when staring into these wild untouched areas of the Earth...
