Its been a whirlwind of a week and I have seen rain and sun. I´ve put my toes in the Atlantic Ocean and reached the End of the World. I have much to say about this, but I´m on a countdown timer so unfortunately I can only offer my week in semi-brief:
We reached Santiago, stayed with hilarious chatterbug Maria-the-Mom in the Old Town for two days. After a few free meals in a 5 star hotel, we strapped on our packs and continued on our way. We walked for 2 days over hills and through mazes of the tallest Eucalyptis trees I´ve ever seen. We were heading to the "End of the World," the most western Coast on the Camino route. On the third and final day, we rose to the pounding of rain. So we took a CAB! It was awesome. In what would have taken us 8 hours to walk soaking wet, we arrived in half an hour dry as toast! We climbed the remaining 2.5 kms to the actual coast and saw the last camino arrow, and the last kilometre marking indicating "0": We could walk no further. Our camino had at last come to an end. And then Nick burned his pants and threw his stick in the Ocean.
We have since then, hopped on a bus from Finisterre (the coast) to Santiago and another bus from Santiago to Barcelona... a total of 20hrs straight on a bus. Eck. We crossed the country, going backwards over all the towns we already walked through. It was pretty remarkable to see all the distance we had covered and it made me happy.
Now we are sitting in an internet cafe, dirty and tired, trying to find somewhere to sleep tonight. Luckily, I think a fellow canadian, Andrew, will give us a place to rest! Oh the life of a traveller...
