Like drowning rats, drenched to the core we made our way down the cobbled streets our heads crowded by umbrellas. We have just walked 400 kms for this: for the arrival at Santiago De Compostela. AND HERE WE ARE! Although slightly anti-climatic, what with the pouring rain and all (I hope it's not a bad omen), we are very happy to be here. It was a bit of a wet day. In fact, an entirely soaking wet day. But nothing would stop us from reaching Santiago. A quick nip into the cathedral and we continued onwards to find a place to peel off our clothes and have a hot shower. I randomly ran into a man that we had met along the camino, an aussie, who had broken his arm on the journey. He gave us a good recommendation of a clean, cheap place to stay and here we reside. This "pension" (a step up from a hostel), is run by a vibrant woman all chattery like canary who is very sweet and very much like a mom. It feels a bit like sleeping on someone else's home, but we don't care - all we wanted was to be warm.
Nick has just displayed our "compostellae" - our certificate that officially congratulates us on walking for days - on top of our beds, so that we wont forget what we've just accomplished (although I think its fairly unlikely that we would forget anything of that sort). Now with grumbling tummies we are going to face the rain once more... sans backpacks of course (thank goodness) and get us some FOOD!
